Soy Dinner
I was watching the cooking channel last night and this guy made this fried tofu dish
that looks pretty good. I never had tofu so I decided to give it a try. Kim and I went to
whole foods and picked up some ingredients. We decided to try and make this dish as
vegan friendly as possible, to please our many vegan friends. We picked up a pack of
extra firm tofu, fresh garlic, and some vegan oatmeal chocolate cookies, which are
really freaking good.
It was pretty easy to make, we just sliced up the tofu then placed them under paper
towels to soak up as much water as possible, then we marinated it in woosthersire(sp)
sauce, a dash of balsamic vinegar, black pepper, and thyme. We let that sit in the
marinade for about 15 minutes. Meanwhile we set out two plates, one with egg substitutes
and the other with flour. We also put some vegetable oil in a pan and turned the heat to
med. Once the tofu was done marinating we dredged each slab with flour first then egg,
then it took a nice bath in the hot oil until golden brown. Once they are golden we
placed them on some paper towels to absorb as much of the oil as possible. I put this
tofu over ramen noodles and then topped it with soy beans soaked in soy sauce! Triple
whammy! You can serve it with whatever you want, rice would be good but we didn’t have any.
I had the idea to videotape the soy dinner process, please excuse the audio but I didn’t
feel like spending too much time on it. You are going to have to download the video to
see what I thought of this dish.
